IDC Retail Insights defines omni-channel merchandise optimization as the set of technologies, data assets, skills, processes, and management intent required to develop and maintain sets of targeted and localized offers that best satisfy important business objectives. These goals include customer satisfaction, customer lifetime value, and category, channel, and corporate performance. By "offers," IDC Retail Insights means the broad set of attributes that characterize assortments, products, services, prices, utility, and convenience that match customers' buying criteria and shopping behaviors. Targeted and localized offers present a compelling "choice set" that satisfies and delights consumers. Download this white paper to read the questions posed by IBM to Greg Girard, program director of Omni-Channel Analytics Strategies at IDC Retail Insights, on behalf of IBM's customers.

In a recent Aberdeen Group Analyst Insight report,1 Asset Management: The Changing Landscape of Predictive Maintenance, a survey of executives states that the number one risk to operations was failure of their critical physical assets —ensuring that they are available, reliable and performing as originally intended. Though, such a risk can become an opportunity. Top-performing companies rely on analytics related to maintenance, safety and replacement equipment to plan for capital expenditures, manage their assets on a daily basis and maximize asset performance.

The demand for new data about customers, customer behaviour, product usage, asset performance, and operational processes is growing rapidly. Almost every industry wants new data. Some examples of this are: • Financial services organisations want more data to improve risk decisions, for ‘Know Your Customer (KYC) compliance and for a 360 degree view of financial crime. • Utilities companies want smart meter data to give them deeper understanding of customer and grid usage and to allow them to exploit pricing elasticity. They also want sensor data to monitor grid health, to optimise field service and manage assets. Download now to learn more!

NSS research indicates that NGFW devices are typically deployed to protect users rather than data center assets, and that the majority of enterprises will not tune the IPS module separately within their NGFW. Therefore, NSS evaluation of NGFW products is configured with the vendor pre-defined or recommended,“out-of-the-box” settings, in order to provide readers with relevant security effectiveness and performance dimensions based upon their expected usage.

Applications are evolving at an ever-faster pace. These applications are not discrete islands; they build on a complex, interconnected set of components that includes disparate technologies, developers, deployment topologies and organizations. Developers must deliver high-quality applications while limiting their testing expenses. In this challenging environment, a combination of automated integration testing and test virtualization can enable test teams to improve software quality and keep up with the rate of change. This whitepaper helps address these needs by describing the benefits that can be gained through a proactive and continuous approach to integration testing with IBM® Rational® test automation solutions.

The need to understand how the performance and problems within the technical infrastructure impacts the capabilities of the business is massive.  However, the majority of companies can only measure application and specific asset performance, whereas many issues within the infrastructure lie at the transport level, where packet switching presents both great opportunities and major issues.

Organizations have implemented enterprise applications such as ERP and CRM for business process execution but have failed to address the key enterprise asset: data. In the current economic environment, enterprises that fail to capitalize on their data assets jeopardize their cost structures and their earnings potential. It is vital for organizations to leverage their data assets to measure their business performance, identify the weak poles and strategic improvement spots to scale their business to new heights. Business Intelligence (BI), the recent innovation in IT, has emerged to be a potential hope for the organizations to build a strong business milieu without any new asset investments and utilizing the existing key assets of the organizations.

According to recent ESG research, 70% of IT respondents indicated they plan to invest in HCI over the next 24 months. IT planners are increasingly turning toward HyperConverged Infrastructure (HCI) solutions to simplify and speed up infrastructure deployments, ease day-to-day operational management, reduce costs, and increase IT speed and agility. HCI consists of a nodal-based architecture whereby all the required virtualized compute, storage, and networking assets are self-contained inside individual nodes. These nodes are, in effect, discrete virtualized computing resources “in a box.” However, they are typically grouped together to provide resiliency, high performance, and flexible resource pooling. And since HCI appliances can scale out to large configurations over time, these systems can provide businesses with investment protection and a simpler, more agile, and cost-effective way to deploy virtualized computing infrastructure. Read this paper to learn more.
