A spreadsheet-based approach to performance management won't meet the challenges facing growing midsize businesses. You need confidence in the information you're using for critical decision-making. Read this white paper to see how IBM® Cognos® Express can transform spreadsheet-only processes to create flexible and timely plans, budgets and forecasts.
While more and more enterprises are using analytics to guide their decision-making processes, most midsize businesses continue to rely on old-fashioned decision-making techniques like trial and error. The reason for this is simple: advanced analytics solutions can be very complex and expensive to implement, leading midmarket businesses to assume that the benefits of analytics are beyond their reach. IBM has created a new analytics solution that is designed specifically with the needs of midmarket businesses in mind. The solution, IBM Analytic Answers, gives midmarket businesses the opportunity to take advantage of a sophisticated analytics platform, backed by IBM expertise, while also staying within their budgets.
The data center is challenged. Many midsize businesses simply do not have designated personnel to care for their data center; they have only a standard room to host the company server and storage infrastructure and have no luxury to expand. In short, they must work within their constrained space.
Infrastructure matters. Today’s business environment is increasingly dominated by mobile and cloud-based platforms, and by the skyrocketing volume of new data. And with 70 percent of the average organization's IT budget being spent on operations and maintenance, infrastructure must be simplified, adaptive and responsive. Those are the characteristics of the software defined environment: IBM’s optimized, customized, virtualized IT platform designed to replace systems that assign server, storage and network resources manually. This eBook serves as an essential introduction to SDEs: what they are, and why your organization needs them now more than ever.
Walk past your data center, and you might hear a soft, plaintive call: “Feed me, feed me…” It is not your engineers demanding more pizza. It is your servers and applications. And the call is growing louder
New Cisco® 40-Gbps bidirectional (BiDi) optical technology lets you bring 40-Gbps speeds to the access layer using the same 10-Gbps cable plant you are using today. It is a huge cost savings, whether you are upgrading your current data center or building a new one. And it means you can start taking advantage of 40-Gbps performance for your business right now without needing special budget approval and without having to wait a year to get the capacity you need.
This study showed that as companies adopt cloud strategies for sourcing and building IT services,
they are both expecting and achieving significant gains in business key performance indicators
(KPIs) including revenue growth, strategic IT budget allocation, IT costs, quicker time to provision,
and increased ability to meet SLAs. Further, our study showed that as businesses increased their
orientation to cloud, these KPI benefits accelerated. IDC has identified five stages of cloud maturity:
ad hoc, opportunistic, repeatable, managed, and optimized (in increasing maturity), and while
there are immediate benefits from moving even from ad hoc to opportunistic, the benefits accrue
and grow as you move up the adoption curve. Organizations studied are realizing $1.6 million in
additional revenue and $1.2 million in reduced costs per cloud application.

Selecting an Infrastructure-as-a-Service (IaaS) provider can be a complex exercise that involves an array of considerations including business needs, budget, and application requirements. Buyers frequently respond to this complexity by filtering vendors based on variables that are more easily comparable, usually product features, location, and price. By contrast, performance, which is a critical factor to ensuring fit with business needs and ultimately satisfaction with the service, is often ignored. Virtual machine (VM) performance can be challenging to assess because it can vary drastically across vendors, instance sizes and prices, as well as in terms of a particular application’s unique requirements.

Not long ago, search marketing and branding were viewed as two entirely different aspects of the marketing mix. Like oil and water, they didn't mix. Get the 5 simple but effective tips to build B2B brands with search marketing.
Today, social media makes up 10.7 percent of marketing budgets. By 2020, CMOs plan to double spending to 23.7 percent.
Do you have the right numbers, if any, to prove that social is driving business results? Most don’t. According to the latest CMO Survey by Duke University:
- A mere 15 percent of marketers have proven social’s impact quantitatively
- 58 percent of CMOs feel increasing pressure to prove the value of marketing
- Only 2.3 percent of marketing budgets is dedicated to ROI measurement
“If marketers are unable to map social media back to business objectives, board members and C-suite executives won’t take their efforts seriously,” says Michelle Vangel, Cision’s vice president of insight solutions.
But how can you showcase social’s bottom-line impact, gain more influence as a decision maker and surge ahead of competitors? Turn to a single, intuitive social media platform, like Cision’s, to help your brand make decisions based on data, not blind guesses.

Michael Farino is the Hospitality Manager for the New York office of DLA Piper (DLA), one of the world’s largest business law firms.Michael and his team oversee the firm’s meal program and all caterin gand special events. With 500 employees in the office and dozens of client meetings and special events each month, this is no small task.
DLA worked with Seamless to create a set of rules that would govern when and how employees could order food. Each and every one of DLA’s 500 NYC-based employees was given a username and password. Everyone was free to log-in and order their own meals. Everyone was also assigned to a specific budget group. These budget groups are based each person’s role at the Firm and can accommodate different spending limits and permission levels. As Michael notes, “right away, Seamless gave us the power to enforce our rules, but still be flexible so people get what they need. It’s a win-win.”
