Local authorities continue to search for ways to improve society – to increase economic growth and social mobility, and to address environmental goals through the regeneration of town centres and regions. Technology, as ever, undoubtedly plays a role in this transformation, but creating the ‘smart city’ of the future is more than simply adopting digital; at its core, a smart city uses technology to solve problems and improve citizen experiences.
Global ‘smart city’ revenue is expected to grow to $88.7bn and, with its ability to deliver better public services, efficiently and sustainably, it’s no wonder. Using IBM Watson’s cognitive capabilities, companies can quickly differentiate their customer service quality by being more pro active and responsive to customer needs. Simply put, chatbots and virtual agents are the future of customer interactions. Building apps from scratch that incorporate natural language processing, speech to text recognition, visual recognition, analytics, and artificial intelligence requires broad expertise in these disciplines, large staffs, and a huge financial commitment. Making use of IBM Watson cognitive services brings these capabilities in-house quickly and without the capital investment that would be needed to develop the technologies within an organization.

The personal cloud is the most persistent data loss threat to the enterprise today because many employees use their own cloud services to store work documents. Traditionally, content security solutions functionally link security and storage which requires the migration of work documents to a new content storage repository in order to enforce security policies. This increases complexity by creating more repositories for the enterprise to manage. Most importantly, this approach does not solve the personal cloud problem because individual users continue to store their work documents, for convenience, in cloud services that IT cannot secure.

Businesses face greater uncertainty than ever. Market conditions, customer desires, competitive landscapes, and regulatory constraints change by the minute. So business success is increasingly contingent on predictive intelligence and hyperagile responsiveness to relentlessly evolving demands. This uncertainty has significant implications for the data center — especially as business becomes pervasively digital. IT has to support business agility by being more agile itself. It has to be able to add services, scale capacity up and down as needed, and nimbly remap itself to changes in organizational structure.
Over the past decade, businesses have made tremendous investments in information capture, storage, and analysis. But having a wealth of data isn’t the same as having valuable information. Enterprises use data virtualization software such as TIBCO® Data Virtualization to reduce data bottlenecks so more insights can be delivered for better business outcomes. For developers, data virtualization allows applications to access and use data without needing to know its technical details, such as how it is formatted or where it is physically located. For developers, data virtualization helps rapidly create reusable data services that access and transform data and deliver data analytics with even heavylifting reads completed quickly, securely, and with high performance. These data services can then be coalesced into a common data layer that can support a wide range of analytic and applications use cases. Data engineers and analytics development teams are big data virtualization users, with Gartner predicting over 50% of these teams adopting the technology by 202

A company's products needed constant updates due to changing business rules and regulations, as well as new functionality. However, tasks such as regression testing took too long and consumed too many resources. Collaborative helped to dramatically speed up the process through automation and process analysis, leading to increased customer satisfaction.
In this case study, a company needed to find a way to update and improve a legacy trade portal application. With the help of Collaborative, using domestic resources, the company completely replaced several legacy trade portal applications, allowing for the retirement of several application platforms and legacy databases.
