IBM rarely, if ever publicly, talks about the future of IBM Z. When IBM's sales managers have a oneon-one client conversation (under NDA), they might inform the customer about the next processor, but the company rarely talks about the mid- to long-term future publicly. An obvious reason for this is not to disrupt sales, but at the same time, IBM believes that it is sometimes working on problems that the market might not know it has yet. IBM felt that it was doing a disservice to its current and future customers by not being more open, which is why Tarun Chopra, director, Product Management for IBM Systems, and Ross Mauri, general manager, IBM Z, agreed to talk to IDC about the future of IBM Z. In these conversations, IBM was not putting a date on any of the topics it was willing to discuss. But the company was willing to talk about where it is investing R&D dollars and skills.

Customer and supplier portals are one of the many fruits borne from the
age of digital transformation. However, the level of accommodations that
portals provide to customers and suppliers has spawned a whole new
set of challenges that didn’t exist less than a decade ago. Chief among
these is something referred to as “portal fatigue.”
Many AR departments and CSR teams are painfully familiar with the
term, as it’s often their job to either retrieve orders from a customer portal
or submit invoices directly into customers’ AP systems. On paper, these
tasks don’t seem all that odious. But when you consider the amounts of
different portals being used, and the fact that not every user is trained
on each portal, it’s easy to see why portal fatigue is a very real and
concerning problem for today’s businesses.
The rate at which technology is evolving is increasing almost exponentially. In the business sector, hardware has given way to software-defined everything, while many on-premises technologies are now offered as a service. Much of the advances in technology over the last few years have been the direct result of the growing ubiquity of the cloud and faster connectivity speeds, both of which have enabled companies to adopt digital transformation technologies to help them work smarter and more efficiently.
