Renewable energy is increasingly affordable, good for the environment and here to stay. The problem is that the nation's electrical grid isn't ready for it. The grid was not built for the kind of fluctuating supply that comes from distributed energy generation. In addition to the increased volatility associated with distributed energy resources, utilities are confronted with increased demands on the grid from electrification and digitization of the economy. Customer expectations for consumer-grade digital experiences and increased emphasis on safety and reliability are only increasing.

Michelle has been with Twilio for nearly four years, supporting “Twilions” — as employees are affectionately known inside the company — through tremendous growth in both revenue and headcount. “We’re looking at creating a great employee experience at Twilio. We want to provide Twilions with the tools, resources, and experiences they need to innovate, scale, and grow.” BetterUp’s whole person approach was a key part of Michelle’s evaluation process. Most leadership development approaches focus on teaching people what to do. But what they miss is an equal focus on how to be. In contrast, BetterUp’s approach addresses the psychological resources that allow leaders to manage themselves so they have the capacity to manage others. This includes the ability to remain resilient, have a growth mindset, maintain a sense of control, and take risks. Evidence shows that these resources need to be in place for sustainable leadership habits to take root.

In this report, we share the five shortcomings of L&D solutions today and offer insights into how you can create a program that delivers the business outcomes you need, while enabling your people to thrive.
The European Union’s new regulatory framework for data protection laws, the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR), became enforceable on 25 May, 2018. Under GDPR, organisations have new obligations to improve the security and privacy practices for the personal data they collect and use. With these new obligations comes the potential for heavier fines and penalties. Fortunately, Amazon Web Services (AWS) can help guide your organisation toward compliance under the new requirements. Take advantage of our services, resources, and experts as you navigate these changes.
Government agencies often look to promote new technology for cost-savings and efficiency, but it does not stop there. The second and third-tier effects of technology can be long lasting for citizens, businesses, and economies. When public institutions adopt the cloud, they experience an internal transformation. Inside an organization, cloud usage drives greater accessibility of data and information sharing, increases worker productivity, and improves resource allocation. The external benefit of the cloud is recognized through a government’s ability to put reclaimed time and resources toward serving citizens. This includes provisioning public services, such as occupational-skills training, quicker and more effective service delivery, a pathway to a more productive workforce, and ultimately, a boost to local development. This whitepaper examines the enterprise-level benefits of the cloud, as well as the residual impact on economic development. The U.S. Economic Development Administration
Amazon Web Services (AWS) provides rapid access to flexible and low-cost IT resources. With cloud computing, public sector organizations no longer need to make large upfront investments in hardware, or spend time and money on managing infrastructure. The goal of this whitepaper is to help you gain insight into some of the financial considerations of operating a cloud IT environment and learn how to maximize the overall value of your decision to adopt AWS.
Innovation requires many ingredients: a great idea, creativity, persistence, the right data, and technology. Governments around the world are taking advantage of the cloud to reduce cost and transform the way they deliver on their mission. The expectations of an increasingly digital citizenry are high, yet all levels of government face budgetary and human resource constraints. Cloud computing (on-demand delivery of IT resources via the Internet with pay-as-you-go pricing) can help government organizations increase innovation, agility, and resiliency, all while reducing costs. This whitepaper provides guidelines that governments can use to break down innovation barriers and achieve a digital transformation that helps them engage and serve citizens.

Safety has always been Eaton’s highest priority and we work closely with the NEC (National Electric Code) to ensure new policies continue to protect our most valuable resources, people.
Eaton, the NEC, NEMA, and other organizations have long maintained that molded case circuit breakers are not suitable for repair or refurbishment. While changes to the code for 2020 do not change that position, they do provide clarity on what it means to be refurbished and what is now required when a suitable product is refurbished, including clearly marking the item as refurbished and removing the original manufacturer’s listing mark.
The new code distinguishes between general maintenance like replacing a breaker, and refurbishment, altering a piece of equipment to a once again operational state. Because a refurbished unit cannot be tested to the manufacturer’s test protocol, it cannot continue to carry the original listing mark.
Read the article below and learn about "reconditioned", and what the NEC is doing to reinforce that UL489 molded case circuit breakers are not suitable for refurbishment or repair.
Countless studies and analyst recommendations suggest the value of improving security during the software development life cycle rather than trying to address vulnerabilities in software discovered after widespread adoption and deployment. The justification is clear. For software vendors, costs are incurred both directly and indirectly from security flaws found in their products. Reassigning development resources to create and distribute patches can often cost software vendors millions of dollars, while successful exploits of a single vulnerability have in some cases caused billions of dollars in losses to businesses worldwide. Vendors blamed for vulnerabilities in their product's source code face losses in credibility, brand image, and competitive advantage.

Because business success is tightly fused with technology, IT costs are rising, and this trend is expected to continue. As a result, businesses are demanding that IT be more than a static resource. IT is expected to deliver business results with a measurable contribution to the organization's bottom line.
Virtualization is now mainstream. Enterprises continue to heavily invest in virtualization projects and while short term hardware and cost saving benefits are being achieved, few enterprises achieve anywhere close to the full potential of virtualization as they struggle with new problems like assuring performance and availability, preventing VM sprawl, and maximizing resource utilization
Effective workload automation that provides complete management level visibility into real-time events impacting the delivery of IT services is needed by the data center more than ever before. The traditional job scheduling approach, with an uncoordinated set of tools that often requires reactive manual intervention to minimize service disruptions, is failing more than ever due to todays complex world of IT with its multiple platforms, applications and virtualized resources.

Data center cable management is often considered a problem reserved for network engineering teams, but bad cable design can wreak havoc across your entire enterprise.
“Spaghetti” cabinets and other symptoms of ill-considered cabling make it more difficult to complete equipment installations, troubleshooting, and maintenance. They can create an unsafe operating environment for your equipment by restricting airflow to racks, trapping dust, keeping cables warm, and making it impossible to understand at a glance how your devices are connected. Bad cable management practices can even hinder modern data center environments from adapting to new technologies like IoT and big data, provisioning IT resources on demand to support business innovation, and utilizing data center capacity to promote scalability, efficiency, and cost effectiveness.
There’s strong evidence organizations are challenged by the opportunities presented by external information sources such as social media, government trend data, and sensor data from the Internet of Things (IoT). No longer content to use internal databases alone, they see big data resources augmented with external information resources as what they need in order to bring about meaningful change. According to a September 2015 global survey of 251 respondents conducted by Harvard Business Review Analytic Services, 78 percent of organizations agree or strongly agree that within two years the use of externally generated big data will be “transformational.” But there’s work to be done, since only 21 percent of respondents strongly agree that external data has already had a transformational effect on their firms.
