Today’s students are accustomed to leveraging technology as part of their education. For in-class and at-home learning, many are leveraging 1-to-1 iPad programs. For many more, a computer lab is made available to offer access to educational materials. Labs are a cost-effective and efficient way to ensure students have access to a computer with the apps they need to be successful, saving students and parents the cost of purchasing computer hardware and software. Labs ensure digital equity for students who would not otherwise be able to afford these luxuries. And, many school computer labs are Mac labs. Mac has a longer shelf life than PC, countless educational apps and students simply prefer them. In order to set students up for educational and professional success, K-12 schools need to equip students with secure technology and a customized experience when they sit down at any computer in the lab.

If you’re anything like your peers, you are evaluating your education technology on an annual basis to determine if it’s time for a refresh. While most schools conduct their device refreshes during the summer because teachers, staff and students are not present, this timing can prove costly as the market is flooded with devices from schools doing the same thing. To help school districts re-think their technology spending to focus more on total cost of ownership and residual value, as opposed to upfront cost, we’ve partnered with Diamond Assets — a technology buyback company — to explain: • The true value and cost of iPad and Chromebook in education • When schools receive the most trade-in value for their technology • How to prepare for and execute technology refreshes

As schools look to blended learning as a solution to personalize and positively impact student achievement, the need to train and support teachers has become blatantly clear. Thus, districts and schools have allocated scarce resources to the process of onboarding and supporting teachers as new tools and platforms are introduced. However, school leaders and teachers often fail to recognize the need to similarly onboard and support students into new digital environments, instead trusting the inherent technological competencies of the “digital native” student.
