As the number and severity of cyberattacks continue to grow with no end in sight, cybersecurity teams are implementing new tools and processes to combat these emerging threats. However, the oneoverriding requirement for meeting this challenge is improved speed. Whether it’s speed of detection, speed of remediation or other processes that now need to be completed faster, the ability to do things quickly is key to effective cybersecurity. The reason why speed is essential is simple: As the dwell time for malware increases, the lateral spread of an attack broadens, the number of potentially breached files expands, and the difficulty in remediating the threat increases. And the stealthy nature of many of the newer threats makes finding them faster?before they become harder to detect?a critical focus in reducing the impact of an intrusion. These requirements make it essential that security operations centers (SOCs) can complete their activities far more quickly, both now and moving forwa

Whether your company has been selling online for 20 minutes or 20 years, you are undoubtedly familiar with the PCI DSS (Payment Card Industry Data Security Standard). It requires merchants to create security management policies and procedures for safeguarding customers’ payment data. Originally created by Visa, MasterCard, Discover, and American Express in 2004, the PCI DSS has evolved over the years to ensure online sellers have the systems and processes in place to prevent a data breach.

This whitepaper explores the new SPARC S7 server features and then compares this offering to a similar x86 offering. The key characteristics of the SPARC S7 to be highlighted are: ? Designed for scale-out and cloud infrastructures ? SPARC S7 processor with greater core performance than the latest Intel Xeon E5 processor ? Software in Silicon which offers hardware-based features such as data acceleration and security The SPARC S7 is then compared to a similar x86 solution from three different perspectives, namely performance, risk and cost. Performance matters as business markets are driving IT to provide an environment that: ? Continuously provides real-time results. ? Processes more complex workload stacks. ? Optimizes usage of per-core software licenses. Risk matters today and into the foreseeable future, as challenges to secure systems and data are becoming more frequent and invasive from within and from outside. Security has become top of mind for CIOs, and CEOs. Encryption at rest is a piece of the solution, but not a big piece. Encryption over the network is another piece, but only a small piece. These and other pieces do not fit together well; they need to unencrypt and reencrypt the data when they move through the layers, leaving clear versions that create complex operational issues to monitor and detect intrusion. Larger-scale high-value applications requiring high security often use Oracle middleware, including Java and Oracle database. Traditional security models give the data to the processors to encrypt and unencrypt, often many times. The overhead is large, and as a result encryption is used sparingly on only a few applications. The risk to enterprises is that they may have created an illusion of security, which in reality is ripe for exploitation. The modern best-practice security model is an end-to-end encryption architecture. The application deploys application-led encryption s

In the wake of data hacks and privacy concerns, enterprises are working extra hard to make sure they secure customer data from external threats. But what about securing data internally? Organizations unknowingly leave a big security hole in their own systems when they fail to have structured internal processes to handle access requests for employees, which could have disastrous implications for data security. A leading US bank sought to move its internal applications to a secure system for a standard and consistent access rights experience. See how Infosys helped and the five key takeaways from the project.

The term “Cloud First” was initially popularized by Vivek Kundra, who formerly held the post of White House CIO and launched this strategy for U.S. federal government IT modernization at the Cloud Security Alliance Summit 2011. The underlying philosophy of the cloud-first strategy is that organizations must initially evaluate the suitability of cloud computing to address emergent business requirements before other alternatives are considered. This paper offers guidance to help organizations establish a systematic and repeatable process for implementing a cloud-first strategy. It offers a high-level framework for identifying the right stakeholders and engaging with them at the right time to reduce the risk, liabilities, and inefficiencies that organizations can experience as a result of adhoc cloud decisions. The goal of this guidance is to help ensure that any new cloud program is secure, compliant, efficient, and successfully implements the organization’s key business initiatives.

At an unprecedented pace, cloud computing has simultaneously transformed business and government, and created new security challenges. The development of the cloud service model delivers business-supporting technology more efficiently than ever before. The shift from server to service-based thinking is transforming the way technology departments think about, design, and deliver computing technology and applications. Yet these advances have created new security vulnerabilities as well as amplify existing vulnerabilities, including security issues whose full impact are finally being understood. Among the most significant security risks associated with cloud computing is the tendency to bypass information technology (IT) departments and information officers. Although shifting to cloud technologies exclusively may provide cost and efficiency gains, doing so requires that business-level security policies, processes, and best practices are taken into account. In the absence of these standard

Enterprise chief information security officers (CISOs) are seeking ways to leverage existing security investments to bridge the divide between largely siloed security systems. The focus is on reducing the number of consoles needed to manage the security infrastructure. Network security vendors have a significant role to play in bridging the communication gap between these systems. The creation of a unified defense architecture enables threat data exchange between existing security systems. It helps automate the process of raising an organization's security posture when a security infrastructure component detects a threat. The following questions were posed by Fortinet to Robert Ayoub, program director in IDC's Security Products program, on behalf of Fortinet's customers.
