Latest generation high density and variable density IT equipment create conditions that traditional data center cooling was never intended to address, resulting in cooling systems that are oversized, inefficient, and unpredictable. Room, row, and rack-based cooling methods have been developed to address these problems. This paper describes these improved cooling methods and provides guidance on when to use each type for most next generation data centers.

Data continues to grow at an astounding pace? As a result, data center space is becoming more scarce, as more arrays are acquired to store all of this data. Along with this data taking up space, it is also utilizing a great deal of power and cooling. In fact, the average data center in the U.S. uses approximately 34,000 kW of electricity each year, costing $180,000 in annual energy costs. As Infinidat set out to revolutionize the storage industry, one of our goals was to help consumers of storage build a more sustainable infrastructure that would be not only better for the environment, but also help them to save money as well. All of our patents come together to form InfiniBox, a storage solution that does just this.

The emphasis on fast flash technology concentrates much attention on hot, frequently accessed data. However, budget pressures preclude consuming such premium-priced capacity when the access frequency diminishes. Yet many organizations do just that, unable to migrate effectively to lower cost secondary storage on a regular basis. In this white paper, explore: • How the relative proportion of hot, warm, and cooler data changes over time • New machine learning (ML) techniques that sense the cooling temperature of data throughout its half-life • The role of artificial intelligence (AI) in migrating data to the most cost-effective tier.

Dinosaurs are super cool. That’s an indisputable fact. There are some places though, where dinosaurs don’t belong, and one of those is in your fast-paced DevOps environment. Early on, in the days before DevOps and Continuous Integration, one of the original players in the AppSec space produced an early SAST tool, offering a wide variety of supported languages, and they quickly built name recognition and a large install base of customers. Yet, 15 years and two acquisitions later, that company has become a software dinosaur – a mere relic – maintaining a product that is too big, too slow, and too clunky to deliver the innovation needed to protect its customers in the 21st century.

The cooling measures announced by the government on 5 July threw the residential market into a frenzy. Within a span of five hours, over 1,000 units were sold from three new projects as buyers rushed to beat the midnight deadline to avoid paying the new higher Additional Buyer’s Stamp Duty (ABSD) rates. The 1,000 units came from three projects that were launched that night: over 500 units from Riverfront Residences in Hougang, around 300 units from Park Colonial at Potong Pasir and some 200 units from Stirling Residences in Queenstown. For the rest of the quarter, response to new launches was patchy as potential home buyers weigh affordability with opportunity cost. The residential price index edged up by a mere 0.5% q-o-q, a far cry from rises of 3.4% in Q2 and 3.9% in Q1. This moderate price increase shows that the key objective of the cooling measures, which is to achieve a more gradual but sustainable price growth, has been met. Suddenly, the network is cool again. Tech trends such as the Internet of Things, software-defined networking and growing end-user expectations all add up to a demand for “dialtone” network performance and reliability. But as the data deluge continues to accelerate, and as organizations continue to rely on multiple clouds to achieve business goals, how can the network keep up, much less meet tomorrow’s demands? This e-book looks at the trends that are impacting the enterprise network—the modern network—the issues it creates for NetOps professionals, and how organizations can act today to plan for tomorrow.

As high-density IT equipment becomes the new normal, the amount of heat generated continues to grow substantially – as does the challenge of efficiently cooling data centers. Traditional perimeter and/or raised floor computer room air conditioning systems increasingly struggle to remove concentrated heat loads. In many small to mid-size data centers, implementing close-coupled cooling solutions can be a highly effective and efficient strategy for supplementing cooling capacity. Located in or near server racks, close-coupled air conditioning units focus cooling where it is needed most without lowering the temperature of the entire data center. In addition, these modular solutions make it easy to reconfigure cooling to handle new equipment or eliminate hot spots. As a result, using close-coupled portable, rack-mounted or row-based air conditioning units tailored to your specific data center needs can boost cooling efficiency and add valuable flexibility.

Cooling tends to take a back seat to other concerns when server rooms and small to mid-size data centers are first built. As computing needs grow, increased heat production can compromise equipment performance and cause shutdowns. Haphazard data center expansion creates cooling inefficiencies that magnify these heat-related problems. End users may assume they need to increase cooling capacity, but this is often unnecessary. In most cases, low-cost rack cooling best practices will solve heat-related problems. Best practices optimize airflow, increase efficiency, prevent downtime and reduce costs.

When you’re designing a data center, server room or network closet, deciding which racks to deploy and how to configure them should be at the top of your list. Just like building a house, the surface details may steal the spotlight, but it’s the quality of the underlying foundation that makes the difference between success and frustration. Racks organize IT equipment, such as servers and network switches, into standardized assemblies that make efficient use of space and other resources. Depending on the options you choose, they can also improve power protection, cooling, cable management, device management, physical security, mobility, ease of installation and protection from harsh environmental conditions. Choosing the right racks and configuring them to match your needs will ensure that your IT equipment operates reliably and efficiently, saving your organization from costly downtime and other needless expenses.

HVAC concerns in an industrial facility like a warehouse or manufacturing plant can be complicated. Not only are these spaces usually larger than traditional commercial areas, but they often have equipment or products that need to maintain a specific temperature. MacroAir’s large industrial ceiling fans provide optimal airflow for industrial facilities and are an affordable alternative to HVAC systems. MacroAir’s big industrial fans deliver a cooling effect for occupants, help control the effects of humidity, and can also help conserve heat in colder months by pushing warm air that is trapped at the ceiling toward the walls and down to the floor at occupant level. MacroAir’s big ceiling fans provide an efficient airflow solution and a sustainable alternative to relying on HVAC alone to cool large spaces.

Large industrial facilities such as warehouses and manufacturing plants present a huge operational challenge because of their size. With extremely tall ceilings and a lot of square footage to cool or heat, keeping occupants comfortable is difficult. The solution: MacroAir big industrial ceiling fans. MacroAir large industrial fans create a more comfortable climate and reduce energy costs for large industrial facilities. MacroAir invented the large industrial ceiling fan in 1998 to deliver a cost-effective climate control solution by generating large amounts of airflow. MacroAir’s big industrial fans produce a cooling effect, help control the effects of humidity, and can also help conserve heat in colder months by pushing warm air that is trapped at the ceiling toward the walls and down to the floor at occupant level. MacroAir big industrial ceiling fans create an environment where employee’s feel comfortable, which results in increased productivity and improved industrial operations.
