Cisco engaged Miercom to conduct a competitive analysis of its Catalyst 2960-X switch versus two comparable Hewlett-Packard switches from the 2920 and 5120 product families. Miercom executed comprehensive hands-on testing and evaluated the performance of some widely deployed features that are critical for reliable functioning of enterprise networks. The test methodology focused on specific areas in which Cisco believed there were key competitive differentiators between the products. Test results validated include throughput, latency, energy efficiency, stacking, LACP load balancing and Quality of Services (QoS) performance. Miercom found that the Cisco Catalyst 2960-X demonstrated superior performances against the competitive switches in the tests featured in this report. We tested the following switch-configurations of the Cisco Catalyst 2960-X, HP 2920 and HP 5120 product families.

The network of yesterday is not the network that can take businesses into the future. As mission critical enterprise applications move to the cloud, wide area network (WAN) must adapt to become agile, flexible, and scale rapidly. Leading IT trends such as Internet of Things (IoT), Software as a Service (SaaS), cloud storage, enterprise mobility, emerging transport alternatives, and globalization increase the importance of how network assets are leveraged and how the network is conceptualized. The advantages of public and private data centers and cloud-based applications are significantly diminished if the network is slow, inflexible, and unpredictable. Erratic network performance with high latency, jitter and packet loss can significantly impact user adoption, satisfaction, and overall corporate productivity. As connectivity options continue to emerge, end users are no longer tethered to the office or to the localized applications and services that were trademarks of a primary or branc

A leading U.S.-based financial services firm was faced with the growing challenge of providing consistent application performance to a vast employee base and nationwide network of partners. The company turned to Equinix to help redesign its network, both to improve performance and prepare for a move to a cloud-enabled environment. Equinix worked with the firm to deploy bi-coastal Equinix Performance Hubs, extension nodes of the company’s existing network placed in strategically located Equinix International Business Exchange (IBX) data centers. A Performance Hub moves services closer to end users and provides direct access to networks and cloud providers. By deploying Performance Hubs, the customer created a high-performance services platform for its business. The result was a dramatic decrease in network latency, improvements in application performance and an enhanced user experience.

Customers have grown accustomed to high speeds and reliable connectivity. One second of network delay when accessing website, mobile app, or application service can increase your bounce rate and even decrease your customer’s trust in your brand. The typical business pain points per the above scenario are always like: Latency – While, latency problems caused by geographic distance are impossible to solve on the public Internet; Availability – Packet loss and complaints from customers can prevent you from increasing your user base; Cost - The growth of your user base and your business needs both outpace your IT budget. Security - Connections over the public Internet are vulnerable to DDoS attacks and other threats. This whitepaper describes: • Challenges that Magic Video faced before implementing Alibaba Cloud’s solutions • How Alibaba Cloud’s solutions help Magic Video build a global hybrid enterprise network, accelerate content delivery of the application, and maximize bandwidth?
